We had a special day last Friday when our local U.S. representative Congressman Sam Johnson stopped by the library to visit with our 4th and 5th grade.
He read House Mouse, Senate Mouse and spoke briefly about his job as a representative and his past. We learned that he splits his time equally between Washington, D.C. and North Texas, traveling back and forth every week. He gets piles and piles of mail and email daily too, and his office responds to every single note. We were very impressed with Congressman Johnson and felt privileged to have a true American hero here to visit!

Check out House Mouse, Senate Mouse next time you're in the library and learn more about how the legislative branch of government works cheesy-style.

But in a big country, it's not always easy to get everyone to agree on an important isssue.

It was such an honor to meet Congressman Johnson in person. He really is a hero. He was funny too. I loved how he told the students they were the future of this country and to stay in school and listen to their teachers. The teachers are there to help you and you can be anything you want to be if you work hard enough.
